Choosing the best lacquer for your hardwood floor
A high-quality lacquer is ideal for protecting your hardwood floor. Offering a range of finishes from matt to gloss, floor lacquer provides durable protection that can be easily maintained in comparison to floor oils. The right lacquer for you will depend on the floor finish you desire, the type of area and amount of footfall. For high traffic areas we recommend Bona Traffic HD, Marldon Ceramaxx, Junckers HP Commercial and Woca Master RD 2K. For domestic areas with less foot traffic we recommend Bona Mega, Marldon Ceruno, Woca Master Optima.
How to apply a lacquer finish to a wood floor
We would always recommend you apply a primer to a wooden floor before using any lacquer such as Bona Prime Classic, Woca Base Prime or Junckers Prelak. The floor primer seals the wooden subfloor preventing the lacquer from soaking into the wood and offering a sound surface for the lacquer to adhere to – saving you money and providing a better finish.
If you are reapplying a lacquer to your floor, you will want to sand down the previous coat first. Floor lacquer is applied to the surface of the floor using a lacquer roller or a t-bar depending on your preference. It is advisable to work in sections and to follow the grain of the wood when applying the lacquer to ensure full coverage.
